You’re ready to propose — so how soon do you need to start planning? Here’s a realistic timeline so you’re not scrambling (or settling).
The sweet spot: 4–8 weeks out
For most couples, a month to two months is ideal. It gives you time to choose a venue, lock in your date, design the setup, and book a photographer — without rushing any of it.
Book earlier for peak dates
Some dates fill up fast. If you’re aiming for:
- Engagement season (November–February)
- Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or New Year’s
- A weekend evening
…give yourself more runway — these book out weeks in advance. More on timing in our best time of year to propose guide.

Sometimes, yes. If inspiration strikes and the date is close, reach out anyway — depending on availability, we can often make a beautiful setup happen on shorter notice. Indoor venues give us more flexibility here, too.
Don’t forget the ring
If you’re having a ring made or resized, that can take a few weeks — factor it into your timeline so it’s in hand before the big day.
The bottom line
Earlier is easier, but we’ll work with whatever time you’ve got. Tell us your date and we’ll tell you exactly what’s possible.
